Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary...
For as long as I can remember, I've always loved Halloween. All the coziness and spookiness of it all, never the scariness. Plus, the dressing up? I mean it doesn't get better than that. However, I never wanted to do the act of trick-or-treating and leave the house. Some things never change. And the soundtrack of the season, Monster Mash and Ghostbusters? Nothing is better. Pumpkin patches, hay mazes and apple picking, excellent wholesome activities.
As soon as August comes to its end, September and October are my favorite time to shop. As far as clothing goes, I think just about every post the last two months proves that I love clothing this time of year. Home wares, though? Hands down the best. Mugs and plates galore. If I can find anything that happens to not have the word plastered "Halloween" all over it, I will keep it up year round. Candles and soaps? The best scents imaginable. And all the better to stock up on!
Movies and literature continue the everyday magic. Poe and his fellow Gothic Lit pals, Shelley and Stoker, have always been favorites. I'm fairly certain my Mom was worried about that for a while, but hey, it never went further than that. I'm not a serial killer and didn't find The Tell Tale Heart as an inspirational piece. Incredibly well written, but not a map for my life. The Addams Family and The Munsters? Definitely a map. The relationships between Lily and Herman and Morticia and Gomez, you can't beat it. I love that they were true to who they were and weren't phased by everyone around them finding them weird or different. Being unique is cool, even if you have a hand running around the house.
Now remember, be friendly to black cats, goblins and ghoulies this Halloween. And the rest of year, at that! Once you start, you'll enjoy the Halloween Lifestyle for eternity.
