What We Wore | Second Hand, But Grand

I have been thrifting for as long as I can remember. There are few better feelings than finding a diamond in the rough when you're at a thrift store. Especially when you see the potential that no one else sees, then you style it up and see their opinion change. All of this hidden potential just waiting to be unleashed. Last weekend I went thrifting with Autumn from She's Wildly Capable and her younger sister Cordelia, and we had ourselves a fun little challenge! Create two looks, and one of those looks must include some type of accessory. We all had our own strategies and were off to the races. For me, thrifting is one of the few areas in my life that I go with the flow and go in with zero expectations. I feel like if you go in expecting to find x,y and z, you end up missing the rest of the alphabet. And the rest of the letters are pure gold.

So, I went in with zero expectations and just perused. The first look came together extremely organically and didn't realize until it was done that I had major Molly Ringwald vibes from The Breakfast Club. And if you don't know what I'm talking about, what rock do you live under? It all started with the statement boots (love them or hate them, you can't deny they make an impression). I'm not usually a cowboy boot kinda girl. But the color combination reminds me of the 80s/early 90s and gives me all the childhood feelings. Plus, I feel like Vince Neil would be a little proud.. And if that doesn't sell the boots, I truly don't know what will. From there, I found the skirt and knew I wanted to find a chunky knit. One of my favorite tips for thrifting (and shopping in general) is check out the men's section! That is where I get my band tees and flannels, and sometimes sweaters. The fabric for some reason is always softer and I like the genuine oversized feel they give. And voila, this look is complete!

Pants: Thrifted, $6 |
Belt: Target |
Sneakers: Vans via Famous Footwear |
For the second look, it just came together on its own. I saw the sweater first and genuinely pondered it. Thankfully when I'm shopping I always keep a mental tally on where an item is and can find again easily. The pants came up and fell right in love. The paper bag waist is always something that stays a pretty consistent style trend season to season, and with the 90s being back in style... How could I say no? I love the material. Super lightweight but has the tweed look and with the cobalt blue stripe going through? Perfect.
