Favorites, Feelings & Thoughts

I'm sure it will come as a total surprise that I love taking fashion inspiration from movies, especially Audrey Hepburn ones. Can you get better than Audrey? Truly don't think so. There are two items, aside from the classic LBD, that I've always lusted after. The perfect nude lip that she applies in the back of the cab, (I think I've got that one narrowed down) and the perfect tortoise shell sunnies. Hers are an oversized wayfarer style with just a hint of roundness and more often than not they're mistaken for black sunnies. I think I've been on the hunt for a pair since I saw the movie for the first time at fourteen. Thirteen years to find the perfect pair? Sounds about right. These have been my non-stop go to since I was sent them from Sojo's and I'm in absolute love. Cannot stop wearing them! They're the perfect size and the tortoise shell isn't too warm or too intense, subtle and classic just like my girl, Audrey.

At the beginning of the year I set myself the challenge of reading fourteen books for 2020... Well, that was definitely prior to any idea of a pandemic setting in. At the beginning of June I read what has been my favorite book of the year! Walk This Way, the Aerosmith autobiography. In the last six months I have been on a rock documentary/autobiography kick; I just can't get enough. And this definitely hasn't been a new train of thought for me, have been since middle school when I would watch VH1's Behind the Music or the secret life of rockers. It's a lifestyle that I would never live, and yet that's my favorite genre of music. Like a moth to a flame. I want to know, actually need to know what life was like. I have a hard time getting into most autobiographies/biographies. The Heroin Diaries by Nikki Sixx (if you haven't read it, I highly recommend) is one of the few I buzzed through and now this. Like Nikki's it's told from each band member's perspective as well as people in their life. It gives a whole new perspective that old interviews and shows leave out, that behind the scenes look we all long for. What it's like backstage and how certain songs came to be, I live for that. Like all but Steven Tyler would huddle around watching The Three Stooges at their first apartment, those little pieces are gems. I also discovered that I really adore Tom Hamilton. A bass player (I know, we're shocked) and from New Hampshire? What's not to love about the guy. It's a hefty read that goes by so quickly! Highly recommend.

And in a whole different category, is this one! The Lost Symbol, along with Walk This Way, are now in my top five books of all time. I had read Angels & Demons along with the Da Vinci Code approaching nine years ago and loved them! The Lost Symbol, though? Blows them out of the water. I could not put this one down and now I want to explore DC for days on end. If you haven't ever read this one, I highly recommend!

Seeing as I have been given the gift of time due to the pandemic, I've enjoyed the beginning of Summer in a big way and taking full advantage of my deck. Morning coffee while it's still cool and peaceful or during the afternoon sun with a good book. I can honestly say this is the first time in my life that I've ever had some sort of tan. Perhaps aside from Summer vacation or two as a kid, but that's truly it. Needless to say I've gotten some interesting tan lines and in hopes of evening everything out I got the new Jergen's Wet Skin Moisturizer in shower self tanner from an Instagram recommendation. I used the original version back in high school when it first came out, and I gotta say I like the in shower version. Super easy and simple and has a Summer-y scent!
Thanks for reading!!
